So I'd like to quickly break down the basics between the 2 professions in a general sense.
Physiotherapy focuses on assessment, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, injuries, and diseases. They use a variety of techniques such as exercise therapy, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and education to help clients improve their movement, strength, flexibility, and overall physical function. Physiotherapist's create treatment plans that may include exercises, stretching and some hands-on techniques.
On the other hand, remedial massage therapy is a heavily hands-on therapy that involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the body, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, to address these the remedial massage therapist will use a combination of massage techniques, such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and giving homecare exercises, to help relieve muscle tightness, improve circulation and reduce pain. This type of therapy aims to identify and address specific soft tissue problems and imbalances that may be contributing to pain, discomfort, or restricted movement.
One key difference between these two modalities is their primary focus and scope of practice. Physiotherapy typically takes a more comprehensive approach to rehabilitation and injury management and often can have very mild hands on involvement. While remedial massage therapy primarily focuses hands on work on the soft tissues to alleviate pain, tension, and dysfunction in specific areas of the body. While remedial massage therapists may also assess and address underlying issues contributing to musculoskeletal problems, the primary focus is on hands-on techniques.
I have found personally my clients come back to me because I'm very hands on. I want to leave you feeling great, being completely informed on the condition and also have a great plan for homecare before our next appointment. A clear planned out treatment plan has been a main point for my clients to have a fast recovery of conditions seeing me.
Remember, if you’re in areas like Tuggeranong, woden valley or queanbeyan region. You don’t have to worry about paying the extra travel fee that North Canberra has to pay. I Just thought to mention it as an added perk of being local. Otherwise areas such as Belconnen and the Canberra city have a travel fee added to their massage.
Enough from me. Thanks for reading.
