Are your first steps in the morning accompanied by a sharp, stabbing pain in your heel? If so, you might be one of the many individuals grappling with plantar fasciitis, a common foot condition that can significantly impact your daily life.
At Remedial2you I'm here to provide you with a guide on treating plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. This inflammation can lead to heel pain, especially during activities like walking or standing for extended periods. This condition can occur through a number of ways including overuse, high impact activities but I also find it just randomly occurs and people cannot find a reason why it has happened to them. It's most common in people from 40-60 but I’ve treated even 20 year olds who have developed it. Inproper footwear can be a factor but interestingly I found a large increase in it from when Covid 19 happened and our behaviors changed. We were home vastly more often and our feet changed due to being barefoot most the day at home.
Now for treating it, resting it, stretching it can help yes. However I like to go down another approach personally. I like to do short bursts of strengthening exercises 3 times a week to help condition the tendons and promote blood flow and healing. I like to obviously use Massage Therapy (I know… What are the chances that me a massage therapist would suggest such a thing)
But its true. Massage can play a crucial role in relieving tension in the muscles surrounding the foot.
Over-the-counter medications, such as ibuprofen, can help manage pain and reduce inflammation. However, consult with a healthcare professional before starting any medication regimen.
So in conclusion combining proper self-care practices, including massage therapy, with lifestyle adjustments like new supported shoes, adding short bursts of strengthening into the feet can significantly improve your experience with plantar fasciitis. If you're seeking relief from heel pain, I’m here to help you step into a pain-free future. Contact me today to schedule a session tailored to address this. John
